Well it’s here. The day before the Dirty Riever, time to feel anxious. I tend to be fairly calm and relaxed about races, uptill the day or day before. Then I start worrying about kit, fitness, weather, routes, pre race food and sleep. I know this ain’t a race but as soon as that number is on and the clock starts, it’s a race. At around 200km off road, it’s gonna be a challenge.
I still got up early to run with the boy, I was looking forward to it as not gonna see him till Sunday. Another glorious day to come and a beautiful morning with it. I see a Kingfisher down the bottom of Potters way. I hear it’s call first then see it wizz just above the water, with its stunning blue feathers flashing as it does. Without doubt my all-time favourite bird. The ole faithful today but thought about combining it with the swan. After seeing all the swans on the Nene, it seems like a good plan. I’m glad we had all that crap weather now, as these last few morning runs probably wouldn’t have felt so special without it. Definitely got the buzz back and gagging to get on the trails (Derwent Dawdle next sat, 20+ miles in the hills 😎). Heading back to town JB has slowed up a bit, he must by warm and looks tired. I tell him “if the cathedral gates are open we’ll head home, if not we’re doing central park” he seems happy with that. As I come up from the underpass, I pass a couple of lads. One has a sleeping bag on his shoulder and looks as though he slept rough. Then I couldn’t believe my ears “don’t know if I can be bothered to walk there, could get a taxi” he said to his mate. What’s going on! Walk you lazy sod, you’ve got sod all else to do. Apart from scrounge from people who feel sorry for you, while they head off to a job they probably hate to pay there own way. Anyway the gates was open, so we ran through the ever lovely cathedral grounds. I always feel in total ore when I go through here. The building and grounds are stunning and I feel like I’ve gone through a time warp. leaving the present on the otherside of the gates and stepping into the past. We head home and Jackson finds his feet again, he must be hungry. We get in and I feed him, he was. Babs is in the bathroom so I make myself egg in egg cups and some granola, sit outside to eat it and listen to the birds. Time to have a shower, finish prepping for the Riever and wait for Dean to pick me up. I’m also waiting for royal mail to bring my brake bleed kit, I ordered it last Friday 😌. At this moment in time the back brake isn’t great. Also need to go out to pick a couple of bits up but don’t want to miss the postie.
The stuff came and brakes are bled. Ready 👍
Day 110 done 255 to go.
688.3 miles total.
